BHSFor the second year in a row, Bloomfield High School’s Wyatt Anderson has been selected to participate in the New England Music Festival Associations’ Concert Festival - March 2023 - in Woodstock. The recognition is significant because it identifies Wyatt as one of the top male scholastic singers in New England.

“We should all be very proud of Wyatt’s growth and accomplishment as a young musician,” said BHS’ Director of Instrumental Music Damon E. Coachman. He also coaches voice and has been meeting with Wyatt, now a senior, every week since mid-September to help the 17-year-old native of Jamaica prepare for his solo audition.

Male soloists from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut will participate in the March concert. Wyatt earned 130 out of 140 points to secure his spot. He thanked Coachman and his BHS choir teacher Lisa Clayton for contributing to his musical development.

The son of Karen and Oneil Anderson said he was humbled to have been selected in consecutive years.  “I worked very hard from last year to this year,’’ Wyatt said. “I had the same judge as last year and he said that I really improved a lot. I’m very happy to be here because I am with the best (high school) singers in all of New England. Every day I sing, I want to get better. I want to share my gift with the world. I have wanted to do this since I was nine.

Among the colleges Wyatt is considering next year are Berkeley College of Music in Boston, Mass., and UConn. His career goal is to be a professional singer or music teacher.

The Woodstock event will bring together the “best and brightest” high school musicians for solos, ensembles and a full concert.
