BPS leaders at Summer Leadership Institute

At the district's  recent Summer Leadership Institute,  school principals and district leaders reviewed academic data and discussed strategies to improve student performance and school cultures.

Superintendent Dr. James Thompson has set four district goals for the 2022-23 year:

  • Transforming and renaming Laurel Elementary School – The new name is Laurel Literacy Academy. This re-boot reflects the intentional work going on at Laurel in reading, writing and comprehension. (We are proud that third grade reading scores at Metacomet Elementary School are above the state average.)
  • Strengthening and streamlining district communications – We wanted to better serve our families and stakeholders with a revamped website and a new Community App.
  • Creating a Welcome Center within Central Office – Our district is sincere about its commitment to family and community engagement.
  • Executing the District Plan of Excellence – This is a primary measuring tool to monitor academic progress and assure goals are achieved.
