Drunk Driving takes the lives of approximately 14,000 people each year with approximately 4,500 of these deaths being teenagers. Bloomfield High School realizes the importance of educating all of our teenagers on the risks associated with drunk driving, in an effort to prevent them from making poor decision when operating a motor vehicle. This October all health students recently participated in a drinking and driving lab, where the students used drunk goggles and a golf cart to understand and analyze the effects of alcohol on a driver. Students each took a "sober" lap without the goggles and then did a "drunk" lap with the goggles on to simulate the effects of drinking and driving.
The BHS Health Department also partnered with The Save a Life Tour, a program which travels around the world to show firsthand the deadly consequences of unsafe driving practices and choices. On Friday, October 6th, The Save a Life Tour visited BHS and set up a distracted driving simulator which simulated the dangers of texting and driving. Students were able to practice driving on a simulator that interacted with them via text messages, showing them just how fast their life can change from one sent text message while driving.
Thank you to the BHS Health Department for educating our students about these dangers. BHS students learned valuable life lessons, hands on as a part of both of these activities.
