In collaboration with Bloomfield Social & Youth Services and others, Bloomfield Public Schools is hosting a series of free monthly financial empowerment and self-care workshops, ending Thursday, May 9, 2024.
The first session –Thursday, Nov. 9 - was entitled “Money Matters” and focused on how to create and maintain a budget. The next workshop is Thursday, Dec. 14, at the town’s community center - 330 Park Ave. The topic is “Self-Care and Parenting”. In-person and virtual attendance options are available. Childcare and food are available for those who attend in-person.
The workshops planned for 2024 are:
- Jan. 11- The ABC’s of Credit Borrowing (Everything you need to know about building credit)
- Feb. 8 – Intentional Self-Care (How to use self-care to eliminate burn-out)
- March 14 – Financial Resiliency (How to springboard from financial challenges)
- April 1 – Creating Healthy Boundaries (How to create a lifestyle that honors boundaries)
- May 9 – Invest in Yourself (Building wealth to meet your life goals)

“These themes were informed by family input,” said District Coordinator of Extended Learning and Family Community Engagement Anjanèe Wright. “Our data shows that these are topics that our families care about. We are all still feeling the financial and mental-health stress of the pandemic. This includes the stress that comes with parenting and educating our students.”
The CT Money School and Align & Elevate are two organizations that will be leading the workshops. Wright said her office is “listening to the needs of our community” and will organizing more workshops that speak to those needs.
For example, the district is working with the Bloomfield Public Library on organizing events next year focused on literacy and community.
