Lynette Easmon, a managing paralegal at Voya and chairwoman of Bloomfield’s Democratic Town Committee, has been elected chairwoman of the Bloomfield Board of Education.
She replaces Donald Harris, who did not run for re-election after serving 12 years on the board. Robert Ike, another long-time member of the board, also did not run for re-election.
Previous board Vice Chairman Howard Frydman, general manager at Bloomfield Access Television, was re-elected to the post. Femi Bogle-Assegai – an adjunct professor for the Connecticut State University System – was elected board secretary.
"As Chair, my role is to foster collaboration, transparency, and effective decision-making within the Board," Easmon said. "In 2024, our priorities include enhancing educational resources, promoting student well-being and moving toward academic excellence for all of our students."
Two returning board members are:
- Thomas Moore – supervisor at the State of Connecticut
- Kimberly Dunbar – associate retirement benefits officer for the Office of the State Comptroller
New board members are:
- Dr. Lisa Simone – director of Alternative Education at Are Cooperative Educational Services
- Tiffany Mack-Mohammed – strategic Human Resource Manager at Disney Greater Hartford
The role of the BOE is to establish policy, set an annual budget and conduct annual evaluations of the superintendent.
This new board, in the near future, will begin a national search for a new superintendent, who will replace the retiring Dr. James Thompson, Jr.
