Dear Bloomfield Public Schools families:
Here is our update as of Monday, November 20, 2023:
RECOGNITIONS
At the Board meeting on Tuesday, November 14, elections were held for Board of Education
officers. Congratulations to the recently elected officers, Chair Lynette Easmon, returning
Vice Chair Howard Frydman and new Board Secretary Femi Bogle-Assegai. I would like to
welcome Dr. Lisa Simone and Tiffany Mack-Mohammed our newest members of the
Bloomfield Board of Education.
We again congratulate our Teacher of the Year, Kimberly Thode, from Wintonbury Early
Childhood Magnet School. She was honored at the 2024 Connecticut Teacher of the Year
Ceremony last week at the Bushnell in Hartford.
PARTNERSHIPS
Eight Carmen Arace Middle School (CAMS) students are experiencing the fields of science
and laboratory medicine through a novel 10-week after-school partnership with the Center
for DNA-Guided Medicine in Hartford. The Center’s Director of Educational Programs, Dr.
Mohan Kocheria, and colleagues, have been overseeing the sessions.
The goal of the CAMS Youth Academy after-school program is to expose students to careers
in science, laboratory medicine and research. The sessions engage students with a hybrid
approach to learning, combining classroom instruction and laboratory experiences.
DISTRICT EVENTS
On November 15, Carmen Arace Intermediate School (CAIS) held its first annual Thankful
Harvest event, welcoming over 100 students and families. They also participated in our November, listened to poetry and learned about different indigenous tribes. The night concluded with students and parents sharing what they are thankful for this holiday season.
Also on November 15, CAIS held a purple dress down day to raise funds for pancreatic
cancer research. Students and staff raised over $250, and the hallways were decorated in
purple to raise awareness of the disease.
CAIS will be hosting its annual “Staff vs. Student” basketball game on Tuesday, November
21. Students and staff are excited to compete for the CAIS CUP.
Bloomfield High School held its Quarter One honor roll banquet on Thursday, November 16.
There were 215 students recognized for their outstanding academic performance.
The district’s Thanksgiving recess runs from Wednesday, November 22 through Friday,
November 24. Schools and offices will be closed.
