BHS has expanded its science course offerings for the 2024-2025 school year, adding another advanced placement (AP) level course to its Program of Studies. This year BHS started offering, AP Chemistry, a one year introductory college general chemistry course. In AP Chemistry, students learn about atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium and more.
Just last week, students in the AP Chemistry class completed a Chromatography Experiment in one of their labs. This type of experiment involves using paper chromatography to separate and identify the components of a mixture. This allows students to analyze the composition of a mixture by comparing the distances traveled by each component. This is just one of the many experiments that students will perform in preparation for the AP Exam.
This is a double period class, where students are preparing for the AP Exam which will take place on May 6, 2025. Depending on a students score on the test and where they will attend college, a student can earn college credit for the course. Students enrolled in the course should have already taken high school chemistry or received approval by the instructor. BHS also offers AP Biology and AP Environmental Science as advanced placement offerings in the sciences.
