On Friday, February 14th, students from Mrs. Skarzysnki's UCONN ECE Allied Health course in collaboration with the district's School to Career Office visited Hartford Hospital's Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI). CESI was Connecticut's first "simulation center" and is the centerpiece of Hartford HealthCare's vision to revamp the medical educational system. Over the years, CESI has grown into a regional, national and international training destination for medical training.
BHS students interested in the medial field were given the opportunity to participate in a day training at CESI and learn more about how they conduct hands-on medical training and research and development in a cutting edge venue. This world class state of the art facility is home to a Bio-Skills Lab, Simulation Labs and High-Tech Classrooms, all of which BHS students explored. Students also had the opportunity to do some hands on training in the "skills arcade" and robotic training suite.
BHS' UCONN ECE Allied Health Course is a semester course, which provides students with an overview of health professions. Field Trips such as this one to CESI allow our students a more hands on approach to learning, as they explore the different medical careers available to them. This is just one of BHS' offerings that help students explore the medical field. BHS also offers: UCONN ECE Medical Terminology, Kinesiology, Genetics and Anatomy & Physiology. Students interested in the medical field can leave BHS already prepared with valuable information for their profession and even college credits.
