Dr. James Thompson, Jr.

Dear Bloomfield Public Schools family:

Most of our schools have been conducting Open House events to welcome families. Bloomfield High School, Global Experience Magnet School, Carmen Arace Middle School and Metacomet held open house events last week.

Carmen Arace Intermediate School will host its Family Meeting, Wednesday, September 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Bloomfield High School will be conducting student-elections next week – known as Campaign Week. Candidates for student-government may, in accordance with school-election guidelines, post campaign materials. Election results will be announced on Friday, September 29.

At last Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, we introduced our re-designed district website and new mobile app for the community to engage and a promotional video on how to download the app via the QR code. Those items are also available on our website and social media platforms – Twitter (https://twitter.com/BloomfieldPS) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bloomfieldpsfb).

Through October 15, the district is celebrating national Hispanic Heritage Month. It is a time when our country celebrates the contributions, cultures and rich histories of Americans whose ancestors were reared in Spanish- speaking countries. At Metacomet Elementary students are learning that Spanish settlers, not the English, were the first immigrants to live in America.

Reminder, new this year - all students in our district will receive a free healthy breakfast and lunch at school this year. Children will not have to pay a fee or submit an application. This free-meals program is part of a national program, known as the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

For those in our community of the Jewish faith, we wish you a good holy day in observance of Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.

We look forward to completing our first month of school. Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Dr. James Thompson, Jr.

Superintendent of Schools
