Dr. James Thompson, Jr.

Dear Bloomfield Public Schools family:

As part of our continuing efforts to engage families we - in collaboration with Bloomfield Social & Youth Services and other partners - will host of series of free monthly financial empowerment and self-care workshops, starting Thursday, Nov. 9.

The first session is entitled “Money Matters” and will focus on how to create and maintain a budget. The 6 p.m. workshop will be conducted at 330 Park Ave., Bloomfield. In-person and virtual attendance options are available. The monthly sessions will run through May 9, 2024.

With the holiday season underway, the district’s climate committee is sponsoring a Food Drive through November 20 to support Bloomfield’s Food Bank. Non-perishable food items may be dropped off at any of our schools. The food drive will culminate on November 20 with a “Stuff the Bus” event at each school.

We would like to thank the Bloomfield Lions Club for its donation of a bench to the Bloomfield High School courtyard. Now, when whether permits, students can relax and enjoy the outdoors. A school project, led by BHS’ Multicultural Club, contributed to the installation of the bench.

Congratulations to the BHS boys' and girls' soccer teams for advancing to the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference State Tournament this week. This is the first time for the boys’ team since 2012. The girls made the state tournament in 2020. This is also the first time both teams qualified for the state tourney in the same year.

On our web site,  you can read  a new story about Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School’s thriving Farm to School program.  Our pre-school children are growing, nurturing and learning about healthy foods, vegetables and fruits - and how to prepare them. The expansion of the current nutrition program was made possible via a state grant.

In its efforts to promote Literacy, Wintonbury is hosting its Annual PJ Literacy Night, Thursday, Nov. 9, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be story-telling, with a surprise guest author, and games. Every child will bring home a book.

A reminder that election day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. Schools will be closed.

We are continuing to remind families and members of our community about the district’s re-designed website and new mobile App. A brief instructional video on how to download the app via the QR code is available on our website: www.bloomfieldschools.org/ and social media platforms – X ( https://twitter.com/BloomfieldPS) and Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bloomfieldpsfb). The QR code is also available on those platforms.
