Dear Bloomfield Public Schools family:

Congratulations to the Bloomfield High football team for winning the CIAC Class S state title Saturday, 42-20, over Cromwell-Portland, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Our football program had been to five consecutive CAIC state titles, previously winning in 2018. Overall, BHS has won 10 CIAC state football titles.

Kudos to Coach Ty Outlaw, his coaches and our student-athletes for their accomplishment and contribution to increasing town and school pride.

Global Experience Magnet School recently wrapped up the fall season of their fledgling Esports program, which started last Spring and is gaining traction as one of the school’s more popular extracurricular activities.

Electronic sports, known as “Esports”, is a global phenomenon and features competition via video games that are played in highly organized competitive environments. They can involve teams or individuals. Players must rely on critical thinking, strategic planning, collaboration and teamwork to be successful. Esports also promotes camaraderie and inclusion because it engages people across the world.

Seven GEMS students participated this year, more are expected in 2024. A growing number of colleges and universities are now offering Esports scholarships for those interested in careers in the emerging billion-dollar Gaming industry.

Mark your calendar: the district’s next free Family Workshop Series is Thursday, Dec. 14, 6 p.m., at the town’s community center, 330 Park Ave. The topic is “The Self-Care and Parenting Connection - Defining Self-Care and What it Means to You.” Our family workshop series will continue into 2024.

Also, we are in the final phases of a plan to open a Welcome Center for families at central office sometime next year. The center will be a place where families can learn about community resources, registrations, important meetings and participate in numerous family and community-related events.

A reminder that the deadline to fill out our district-wide Climate Survey is Thursday, Dec. 21. The survey allows us to measure the level of positive school climate by getting anonymous feedback from students, families and staff. Here is the link to the survey:

Bloomfield High School, in an effort to support students in achieving their full potential, has developed a comprehensive SAT-preparation program for juniors. These twice-weekly prep sessions started Monday, Nov. 27 and conclude March 21, 2024. They will better equip students with the critical- thinking strategies needed to excel on the new digital SAT.

Schools conducted Parent Teacher Conferences last week, which provided parents/guardians the opportunity to better support their child’s academic and social development.

We have reached 11,000 new users, over the last three months, to the district's new web page. Thank you for this support and your interest in our schools.
