Dear Metacomet Families,
We are currently monitoring an increase in upper respiratory illness within our school community. This letter is to provide you with information about the illness and our efforts to mitigate the spread here at school. The West Hartford/Bloomfield Health District has been notified and confirms there is an increase in respiratory illness in the community that includes COVID-19, Influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The district will be following their recommendations to heighten our cleaning and sanitation efforts in the classrooms affected.
Ill individuals have been instructed to remain home until symptoms have resolved. We remind parents to be diligent and monitor your children for illness prior to sending to school and to follow the attached Stay at Home Guidelines. All students must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine and are feeling better.
Respiratory viruses are spread when;
• An infected person coughs or sneezes
• You get virus droplets from a cough or sneeze in your eyes, nose, or mouth
• You touch a surface that has the virus on it, like a doorknob, and then touch your face before washing your hands
In order to prevent the spread of virus, encourage your child to:
• Cover their coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their shirt sleeve, not their hands.
• Wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• Avoid touching their face with unwashed hands.
The West Hartford/Bloomfield Health District and our school nurse will continue to monitor any signs of illness in our community and provide guidance. Please remember to contact the school nurse for return to school guidance if you should have any questions.
Sincerely,
Paul Guzzo
Principal

Hello Metacomet families! We are preparing for next week’s heartwarming fun! Beginning Monday, January 27 to January 31, Metacomet School will participate in The Great Kindness Challenge, promoting kindness in PreK-12 schools. We're excited to join this initiative and spread kindness globally. Expect your student to bring home a kindness checklist, a parent letter, and the spirit schedule. The checklists are filled with ideas to spread kindness, respect, and compassion. We encourage students to perform as many acts of kindness as possible and to carry that spirit home. Let's uplift each other and prove KINDNESS ROCKS! Thanks a million for your support!
